In the university district you will find the historic church of Saint Jacob, one of the largest churches in the city. Known as starting point for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and tomb chapel of Baroque painter Rubens.

In the heart of Antwerp, you’ll find St. James’ Church, a place where history, art, and tranquility come together. The moment you step inside, there’s so much to take in: the rich Baroque interior, the many altars, and the magnificent woodcarving, each telling the story of a prosperous parish. A particularly special moment is visiting the tomb of Peter Paul Rubens, preserved here since 1640. His burial chapel, featuring one of his own paintings as a focal point, is for many visitors the absolute highlight of the church.
